Tasting Notes
On the nose are expressive aromas of wood smoke, cloves, ripe dark fruits, plums and caramelized sugar. On the viscous palate, lush tannins linger around dark fruit compote, stewed fruits and blueberry conserve. Slight raspberry notes mingle with cocoa nibs and toasted coffee beans. Substantial power in body and length in finish unite all of these flavors; presenting a bold and highly drinkable wine.

Vineyard Notes
The Occidental Road Vineyard is located just outside of the town of Sebastopol on a south-west facing hillside. The vineyard is blessed with morning fog and afternoon sunshine which provides consistent light and temperatures to encourage the uniform development of grapes and the maturation of complex, cool climate Syrah.

Winemaker Notes
Picked and sorted in the vineyard, the grapes were destemmed and pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery whilst they were still cool from the morning fog. The clusters are then sorted and 100% destemmed. The must was pumped to closed top tanks for 4 days cold soak followed by a reletivly cool fermentation carred out by a yeast strain, L2226. Pumped over twice a day, once fermentation is complete the must is pressed and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is gently filtered before bottling.
